21 THE STAR SPORTS • Thursday, September 12, 2024 @JamaicaStar www.facebook.com/JamaicaStar • www.jamaica-star.com BY JIMMIE STAR Racing Writer U NLIKESundaywhenmost winners of the $568,766 Reggae 6 mandatory payout heeded advice to start with NINA DORADO as a banker, Saturday’s opener could be a tricky one. Leave no stone unturned in getting off to a winning start in the Reggae 6 with multiple selections in the opener. GREAT TRICK has worked really well, clocking six furlongs in 1:17.3, a gallop which should beat $550,000 claimers on any given day. However, given the five-year-old’s tardy gate habit, speedier runners such as SIMBA THE LION and LORD OF AJAHLON must be factored. Recent form points to SHEBOOM, who won workmanlike at seven furlongs last out. However, SHEBOOM reports off back-to-back claims with no guarantee that Errol Waugh will present the seven-year- old mare in similar form. CASUAL PEACH is consistent, having split her last four races evenly between wins and second- place finishes. In addition, she has bustling Robert Halledeen aboard and will enjoy the trip. MAIN MISTRESS, an American maiden among native winners, gets the banker nod in the second, after facing a baptism of fire on debut. Shying from the horse to her left at the start, MAIN MISTRESS was simultaneously wiped out by FIRECRACKER to her right. The American’s woes didn’t end at the start. Reyan Lewis had to take her in hand at the half-mile marker, squeezed for space, after which he had to switch her from behind horses approaching the home turn, taking her widest into the lane. It was a rough trip on debut for MAIN MISTRESS but she stayed on to finish a half-length adrift return winner FIRECRACKER, indicating she would have learnt a lot from that debut run. GLOBAL PURSUIT, a Bold Conquest colt out of speedy American Invader, has done enough four-furlong sprints in 47.0 to make all in the third for two-year-old maidens at the trip. Approach the fourth at five furlongs straight with caution, noting BROMPTON ALEX’ recent change of barn, LEGAL BOMB’s unpredictability, TRAVELLER’S LODGE’s form and ANOTHER WAVE’s improvement on which the track bias could smile. Similarly, EL RAPIDO has the track bias in his favour in the fifth as well as being treated with Lasix. However, removing the blinkers is questionable, widening the scope to equally quick UNBELIEVABLE FORCE and sneaky TEFLON DON, who has worked well at the trip. Go with speed to close the Reggae 6 – ABSOLUTE BLUE, JUST AN ILLUSION and NOBLE IMPULSE – any of which are capable of going all the way at five and a half furlongs.
