14 THE WEEKEND STAR ENTERTAINMENT • September 13 - 15, 2024 @JamaicaStar www.facebook.com/JamaicaStar • www.jamaica-star.com T aylor Swift made MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) history onWednesday night by becoming the ceremony’s most decorated solo artiste ever. The 34-year-old pop megastar was the big winner at this year’s event, scooping seven prizes, and she now has a total of 30 VMAs gongs to her name. Beyoncé also has 30 VMAs wins, but only 25 as a solo artiste, because five of those victories came when she was part of Destiny’s Child. Among Swift’s haul, she took home the main prize of the night, Video of the Year, for her and Post Malone’s collaboration Fortnight , and she also won the Artiste of the Year accolade. Upon accepting the Video of the Year prize at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York, Swift urged people to register to vote for the US presidential election, and she also thanked her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, for adding some “fun” to the video shoot. She said: “If you’re over 18, please register to vote for something else that is important — the presidential election.” Speaking about filming the video, she said: “Something I will always remember is that, when I would finish a take and I would say cut and we’d be done with the take, I would always just hear someone cheering and like woo from across the studio where we were shooting it, and that one person was my boyfriend Travis. “Everything this man touches turns to happiness, fun, and magic, so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot.” Swift and Post Malone won the Best Collaboration prize for Fortnight , and she used her acceptance speech to pay tribute to the September 11 victims and their loved ones. She said: “Waking up this morning in New York on September 11th, I’ve just been thinking about what happened 23 years ago. “Everyone who lost a loved one and everyone that we lost. That is the most important thing today.” Post Malone praised Swift following their flurry of wins, saying: “Absolutely lost for words, one of the most kind and talented people I have ever had the honour of knowing. “Just the amount of work and care and love she puts into everything she does for the music video — I watched her tied up to like the operating table thing in the music video and she was just directing the music video from there.” However, Sabrina Carpenter overcame Swift to win the Song of the Year prize for Espresso , and the star seemed surprised by her victory. She told the audience: “Oh! Well, well, well. Hi! I’ve literally never won one of these, this is really special. The first people who won are the fans.” Taylor Swift becomes most decorated solo artiste H alle Berry is looking forward to being valued for more than her looks as she gets older. The 58 year-old actress — who has daugh- ter Nahla, 16, and son Maceo, 10, from previous relationships — isn’t worried about her beauty starting to fade, because praise for her appearance has always been a “hollow win” as she believes she has so much more to offer the world. She told America’s Marie Claire magazine: “I’ve always known that I’ve been more than this face and more than this body. “So, when that starts to go, maybe for the first time in my life, people will focus on the other aspects of me that I think are way more interesting. “It might feel good to have everybody look at you, but it’s always been a hollow win for me because I had nothing to do with how I came here looking. “I do have everything to do with the kind of mother that I am, the kind of partner that I’ve been, the movies that I’ve been a part of, the acting accolades I’ve garnered over the years, my charity work. I do take ownership over those things that I’ve worked really hard at, and, if somebody finds value in those things, that lights me up.” The Bruised star — who is in a relationship with 54-year-old musician Van Hunt — believes women are judged much more unfairly than women, and vowed to fight against ageism. She added: “Age is just a number that they stick on us at birth. “As women, we get defined by it way more than men do and sometimes it can debilitate us. It can trick us into thinking what we’re supposed to do. “We have to kick that in the face and say, ‘no, I’m going to do what I can do as long as I feel good doing it! And that will be whatever I want it to be. I get to define that.’ “ As she has got older, Berry has grown in confidence and no longer feels she has to impress people. She said: “I’m now usually one of the oldest people in every room I walk in, and that’s a good feeling. “I don’t have to be the dancing bear. I don’t have to worry about appeasing everybody in the room, or care about everybody else’s egos, or their insecurities, or give them what they’re wanting fromme if it’s not what I’m wanting to give them. “My daughter says, ‘Don’t ask mom, because she’s got no f**** to give. Don’t ask her unless you want the answer for real.’” Taylor Swift AP Halle Berry AP Halle Berry says she is more than a pretty face
