Children had a ball at Fun Fest RASBERT TURNER STAR Writer T he grounds of the Spanish Town Examination Depot along Jobs Lane in St Catherine were transformed into an entertainment venue on Sunday, as scores of patrons attended the second staging of the Spanish Town Sharmz Curry Fest. Patrons encountered a variety of curried dishes, ranging from the ‘regulars’, like curried chicken and goat, to the more exotic, such as curried shrimp and lobster, and the eye-opening curried jack fruit and curried beef. There was also a wide array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, which were copiously consumed by those who came to imbibe. “This is a very good look for Spanish Town. I just hope that it will continue to grow,” said businessman Everton Dwyer. Promoter of the event, Devon Morris, said the aim is to give persons a package which includes food, fun and frolic. “The need for clean entertainment cannot be overstated, therefore we intend to grow this festival, and we thank our sponsors for their contributions,” Morris said. There was a small entertainment package, which provided laughter and excitment. This segment comprised drifting manoeuvres by professional drivers, and amateur boxing and wrestling. Later on, comedy staple Granny danced up a storm and got many ‘forwards’ for his time on stage. Visually impaired Portmore artiste Devon ‘Bobo Shabba’ McNeil also had the audience duly entertained throughout his set. But the entertainment package hit a crescendo with Jamaican Michael Jackson being ushered on stage and promptly entertaining the audience with his dance moves and overall impersonation of the late pop icon.
